Safety & Privacy

Warm support needs clear limits.

Trana is an emotional wellbeing companion for adults. It offers private conversation, calming tools, journaling, check-ins, community features, and crisis signposting — while being transparent about what an app can and cannot do.

Safety in the app

The important exits stay visible.

Safety should feel easy to understand: age limits, product boundaries, privacy choices, and visible routes to outside help — all kept close.

Adults 18+ only

Trana is designed for adults. The age limit is shown clearly before use and built into the onboarding flow. We do not knowingly collect information from under-18s.

Clear wellbeing boundary

Trana is wellbeing support, not therapy, diagnosis, medical advice, clinical monitoring, treatment, or emergency care. This boundary is visible on every page and screen.

Crisis resources always free

Red Mode, safety planning, trusted contacts, and international crisis hotline links are never locked behind a subscription. They are always one tap away.

Community safety controls

Anonymous community spaces include reporting, muting, and blocking tools. Safety prompts appear when support may be needed. Moderation is active.

Red Mode

A calmer full-screen path for moments that need structure.

Red Mode is Trana's dedicated space for acute distress — when you need support quickly and don't have the capacity to search through menus. It's accessible from any screen, with one tap, at any time.

It is always free. No subscription required.

  • Full-screen, high-visibility experience — no distractions
  • Immediate grounding options: breathing, orienting, body calming
  • Safety plan shortcut — review your personal plan in one tap
  • Trusted contact shortcut — send a check-in message
  • Crisis resource links — hotlines, text lines, emergency services
  • Accessible from any screen at any time — no subscription required

Personal safety plan

Your own plan, built in the app, always available.

A personal safety plan makes it easier to navigate a difficult moment before it becomes a crisis. Trana's safety plan has five sections, all editable, all private.

Warning signs

The thoughts, feelings, or situations that tell you things are getting harder.

Helpful actions

Things that have helped before: a walk, a distraction, a breathing exercise, a call.

Safe places

Physical places where you feel calmer or safer.

Trusted people

People you can contact, and what you might say to them.

Crisis resources

Hotlines, text lines, and emergency services — pre-loaded and editable.

Always free to create and update

Safety plan access is never locked behind a subscription tier.

Crisis resources

Real help, real people, always visible.

Trana can help you find outside support — but it is not the crisis service itself. Below are the resources shown inside the app, all free, all available without a subscription.

Emergency services (999 in the UK, 911 in the US, 112 in the EU) are always your first contact if someone is in immediate danger. These resources are for emotional crisis support.

AI transparency

What the AI does — and what it doesn't.

Trana uses AI to generate supportive responses and suggest tools. Being honest about AI's limits is part of how we keep the app safe.

What AI does in Trana

  • Reads what you've shared and acknowledges it
  • Suggests one relevant tool or action
  • Responds briefly and calmly — not with long essays
  • Flags moments that may need outside support
  • Connects with your conversation history for continuity

What AI cannot do

  • AI responses can be incomplete, inaccurate, or unsuitable for your specific situation
  • Trana does not assess clinical risk or determine whether someone is safe
  • Safety routing in the app is supportive only — not a substitute for professional judgment
  • Journal entries and conversations are not used to train external foundation AI models
  • If distress increases, Trana points toward human and local emergency help
  • You are always responsible for deciding how and whether to act on any AI suggestion

Privacy commitments

Your wellbeing data is treated as sensitive.

Summary

Gentle support should still be honest support.

If someone is in immediate danger, Trana points them toward local emergency support and real people first. The app's job is to lower the barrier to one calmer next step — not to replace the professional help that some moments need.

Safety always visible

Red Mode, safety planning, trusted contacts, and crisis resources are always one tap away.

Privacy you control

Export, deletion, optional permissions, and account controls are always in Settings.

Adults only

Trana is designed for adults 18+ and keeps that boundary visible at every entry point.
